My Birth Story
On Tuesday morning, July 19, 2005 my mommy went to the doctor for her routine check-up and told the nurse practitioner "NP" that I was not moving as much. During mommy’s check-up the "NP" told mommy that in measuring her - she felt that I had not grown much since the last visit. A stress test was given to see if my heart rate would increase with movement and it did not - but my heart rate was good otherwise. Mommy’s doctor was given the information and decided to induce mommy since she was 38 weeks along. Before leaving the doctors office the "NP" stripped the membrane andsent mommy straight to the hospital. Daddy forgot his cell phone and was having eye problems and nobody could find him. Mommy and Daddy’s friend Amy went to get mommy’s bags and found daddy at home. Mommy was admitted to the hospital and sent to the labor room to be given drugs to prepare her to dilate. Daddy showed up and everything started to happen. In about an hour and a half the nurses stated that her labor was moving much faster than they had anticipated and that I may get here earlier than they anticipated. The nurses continued to offer Mommy an epidural but she did not feel the contractions were much more than that of cramps. The nurse proceeded to insert the fetal monitor in mommy and stretch the cervix - upon which the water broke. When this happened the fetal monitor began showing signs that I was in distress and they sent for the doctor. My Nana showed up and she didn’t know what was happening. The nurses began rolling mommy from one side to the other and stated that I didn't like any of the positions. The doctor announced that mommy would be wheeled straight into the OR and that daddy could not be with her. In about 5 minutes my grandmother CC and aunt Corey joined Daddy and Nana and in about 10 more minutes they heard me cry in the OR. A nurse came out and said that mommy and me were doing fine and that daddy could suit up and come see me. In a few minutes Daddy came carrying me through the nursery for my grandmothers and Aunt Corey to see...my daddy wanted to wait till my mommy was awake to announce my name but went ahead and told Aunt Corey, CC and Nana that my name is Samantha Brooke. I was 18 ¾ inches long and weighed 6 pounds and 1 ounce. I have black hair and big dark eyes. CC took pictures of me and daddy. About 15 minutes later mommy came out of the OR and wanted to see me. She was really thirsty and hurting. CC went to the nursery and brought me to my mommy and my mommy was happy to see me, although she was still a little groggy…My great grandmother Wanda, my neighbors Nancy, Hanna, Jacob, & Amy all came right away and saw mommy and me in the recovery room. Later that day, my Papaw Lynn, Aunt Corey, Uncle Joey, Cousin Lacey, CC and Poppy came to visit me in my mommy’s room. Mommy had lots of visitors and flowers. Daddy stayed with mommy in the hospital. Nana would switch off with Daddy when he needed some rest. Mommy is anxious to take me home.
